Criticism

Luis Gutierréz of Robert Parker's critic wrote in 2021:

"The 2018 Hacienda Monasterio, the wine previously labelled Crianza, is a blend of 80% Tinto Fino, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 2% Malbec, sourced from their 100 hectares of certified organic vineyard in the western part of Ribera del Duero. Fermentation was traditional, destemmed and in 8,000-litre stainless steel tanks (as opposed to the 20,000-litre tanks used in 2016) with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which were new. This wine represents the character of the estate, including all the grapes. It is still a little young, creamy, a little bit chewy with cereal notes, juicy and tannic, but balanced. This vintage has great balance and freshness, but at the moment it's still a bit too oaky for me - but it should develop well in the bottle. They are in the process of replacing the Merlot with Malbec because they believe that Malbec works well in the Ribera del Duero. 220,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2020."
