Criticism

Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's wine critic, writes:

"The NV Matusalem 30 Anos Oloroso VORS used to be sold as an Oloroso Dulce, but this category is no longer recognised by the appellation, so technically it is a Cream, but that is a category that is not so favourably regarded in certain markets. In any case, it is made from 75% Palomino and 25% Pedro Ximenez grapes. The solera dates back to 1847 and the bottled wine is on average 30 years old. It is very sweet on the palate, with the Oloroso character fighting hard not to be dominated by the typical Pedro Ximenez flavours - dry figs, coffee, arrope - and feels low in acidity and quite dense. It goes better with soft cheeses or desserts than savoury dishes."
