Wine Description

Aroma Intense, with dominant aromas of ripe fruit and herbs as well as aging notes of toast and oak.
Color Intense cherry red.
Palate Intense with aromas of ripe fruit, spicy notes and ripe tannins.
Overall result This is definitely one of the best Pintia vintages.
Match with Grilled sirloin steaks and other grilled beef, lamb, vegetable stews and casseroles.

Grape Varieties Tinta de Toro
Soil The soils are brown, sandy, poor in organic matter and poor in mineral salts.
Height Approx. 700m above sea level.
Climate The climate is Mediterranean continental. Precipitation varies between 350 and 400 mm/a. Winters are severe (with extreme minimum temperatures and long periods of frost) and summers are short, not excessively hot, and with significant day-night temperature variations.

Vinification

Maturation 12 months in American and French oak barrels. In wooden barrels and bottle (hence its name).

Criticism

Luis Gutierréz the critic Robert Parkers wrote in 2021:

"The Pintia 2018 comes from a cooler and wetter vintage. The grapes were harvested between September 20th and October 7th and fermented in the new fermentation room where they can work more precisely. The wine still has 15% alcohol, a pH Value of 3.82 and 4.6 grams of acidity It had a shorter aging period this year, aging for 10 months in French and 18% American oak barrels, 81% of them new The nose is very expressive, with bright cherry fruits, and the wine is fresher than the norm in the region, with integrated alcohol and oak, reflecting a very cool year, floral and perfumed.Medium-bodied on the palate, with very fine and elegant tannins.This is certainly one of the best vintages of Pintia. 251,512 bottles, 14,144 demi-bottles, 6,543 magnums and some larger sizes were produced. It was bottled in April 2020."
